![]() | On the banks of Lake Como or Lake Lugano, lying below the mountains surrounding the Intelvi and Valsassina valleys, along the rivers and through the Brianza hills … they all exude culture. These places saw the birth of authors such as Parini and Manzoni. Here are the locations of fundamentals of Italian literature such as The Betrothed, The Patriot and Malombra. European nobility, fascinated by these marvellous places, began building elegant, refined villas here from the XVIIth century on, which are open to the public today. Villa Carlotta, Villa Melzi, Villa Monastero are prime examples of architectural jewels in natural settings of beauty. The City of Como was the birthplace of the physicist Alessandro Volta and you can still find where he lived and a museum exhibiting his work instruments. Yet culture around Lake Como is bound to the traditions handed down by its’ people, in particular and the mountains and the Brianza hills. Sites without number tell the tale of land lived in since the dawn of time, which has conserved its’ history and, in the present day, creates high quality products such as silk, boats and much, much more. | |
